What products help style a shag?

A person seen from behind with a choppy, layered shag haircut in copper-brown against a warm amber background.

The answer

Common types include a light mousse or leave-in on damp hair, a texturising spray for separation, a very small amount of lightweight oil on the ends and a heat protectant for hot tools. You do not need all of them, and many people use one or two. Start with a pea-sized amount, since heavy products collapse the layers, and choose lighter formulas if your hair is fine.
