Crown
The crown is the top and back area of the head where hair grows in a circular pattern. Shorter layers here create lift in a shag, which is what gives the cut its rounded, airy top. It matters because a strong growth swirl can change how those layers sit, and too many short layers on thick hair can make a dome shape. Fine hair keeps enough length there to hold body.
