Grow-out

Grow-out is the period when a cut lengthens and loses its shape. Layers and fringes often have an awkward in-between stage that a stylist can help blend. It matters because a shag takes time to grow back into a single length, so tell your stylist at the first appointment if you plan to do it. Curtain and side-swept bangs blend into face-framing layers more easily than short blunt ones. See also: Curtain bangs, Nape, and the guide Talking to Your Stylist About a Shag and Keeping It Fresh.
