Texture
Texture describes how hair feels and behaves, including strand thickness, curl pattern and surface quality. In styling, it also means the separated, piecey finish a cut can create. For a shag this double meaning matters, because the cut builds texture through broken-up ends while your natural pattern decides how much of it shows. Straight hair often needs texturising and styling to show it, whereas curls and waves show it naturally. See also: Texturising, Density, and the guide Shag Haircuts for Curly, Wavy and Straight Hair.
