Point cutting
Point cutting is a technique where the stylist snips into the ends of the hair at an angle with the scissor tips, softening a blunt line and adding movement. It matters because it gives a shag its feathery edge without removing much length. A typical use is on the ends of straight hair, which otherwise shows layers like steps, and on a fringe so it does not look heavy.
